Just like Argentina’s Leo Messi did last summer, stepping away from international duty before coming back a year later. One of his tormentors Arturo Vidal has decided to leave the International stage as Chile failed to qualify.

Approximately one year ago, Barcelona’s Leo Messi was fed up with arguments about him under performing for Argentina. They lost the Copa America finals for the 2nd consecutive time to Chile on penalties.

Argentina were on the verge of not meeting up with Russia 2018 World Cup qualification and would have put more dent on Messi’s international career.

Last Night game results disqualified Chile and Arturo Vidal

The results pushed Chile out as Argentina’s victory took them to 3rd spot Colombia and Peru take up 4th and 5th. This has led to retirement of the Bayern Munich star Arturo Vidal from international duty. The player dropped an emotional message for Chilean fans on twitter.

“Many thanks to all for everything!! Throughout all these years I gave my life in every match [and] learned [a lot] and taught a country that with a little bit of strength and hard work everything is possible!!!

“My soul is destroyed but at the same time proud of these players and technical staff!!!”

Vidal made his 97th appearance for La Roja which he has scored 23 goals in this period. Had he not chosen to retire, he would have reached 100 caps in few months.

Most of the discussions prior to the game was about Argentina and Leo Messi, Vidal also made this comment before the game, “The best players in the world should go to the World Cup, and I want Messi to go, because he’s the best in the world.”

Messi and Argentina qualification meant that such a quality and class would miss the trip to Russia but fate has made the decisions.
